Potential of Biochar Derived from Agricultural Residues for Sustainable Management

نویسندگان

چکیده

A horizontal drum kiln is a traditional method widely used in Southeast Asian countries for producing biochar. An understanding of temperature conditions the and its influence on biochar properties crucial identifying suitable applications. In this study, four agricultural residues (corncob, coconut husk, shell, rice straw) were production. The turned into within 100–200 min, depending their structures. suitability briquette fuels was analyzed using proximate, ultimate, elemental analysis. biochar’s physical chemical characterized via bulk density, iodine number, pHpzc, SEM, FTIR measurements. All biochars had low O/C H/C ratios negative charge from both carbonyl hydroxyl groups. Coconut husk shell desirable such as high heating value amount surface functional groups which can interact with nutrients soil. These are thus use variety purposes including biofuels, adsorbents, soil amendments.

Mineral constituents profile of biochar derived from diversified waste biomasses: implications for agricultural applications.

The wide distribution and high heterogeneity of different elements in biochars derived from diverse feedstocks make it difficult to regulate their application in soil and to evaluate the maximum potential contribution of the nutrients and trace metals as well as the potential risk of toxic metals. This study classified 20 biochars, covering six typical categories, into three clusters according ...

Factor Affecting the Sustainable Management of Agricultural Water

The main purpose of the study was to investigate the factors affecting the sustainable management of agricultural water in Hamedan. The study population included all wheat farmers possessing irrigated farms in Hamedan city (N=1800). Of these farmers a sample of 317 people has been selected by using randomized multi-stage sampling method. The data were collected through a questionnaire's tool wi...

Potential of agricultural residues and hay for bioethanol production.

Production of bioethanol from agricultural residues and hays (wheat, barley, and triticale straws, and barley, triticale, pearl millet, and sweet sorghum hays) through a series of chemical pretreatment, enzymatic hydrolysis, and fermentation processes was investigated in this study. Composition analysis suggested that the agricultural straws and hays studied contained approximately 28.62-38.58%...

Management of antibiotic residues from agricultural sources: use of composting to reduce chlortetracycline residues in beef manure from treated animals.

Chlortetracycline (CTC) is one of only ten antibiotics licensed in the U.S.A. for use as growth promoters for livestock. The widespread use and persistence of CTC may contribute in development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of composting on the fate of CTC residues found in manure from medicated animals. The effect of CTC residues on co...

Physical and chemical characterization of biochars derived from different agricultural residues

Biochar is widely recognized as an efficient tool for carbon sequestration and soil fertility. The understanding of its chemical and physical properties, which are strongly related to the type of the initial material used and pyrolysis conditions, is crucial to identify the most suitable application of biochar in soil. A selection of organic wastes with different characteristics (e.g., rice hus...
